Special Event for Conservation-Minded Divers
Free Week-long Workshop - Dates: 21 - 28 July 2012
Join us during the week 21 to 28 July 2012 for a free workshop on Posidonia oceanica seagrass species identification, behaviour and photography.
Posidonia oceanica is the key to the abundance that we see whilst diving on the Costa Brava. Our presentations will help you to understand why. You'll also learn about the conservation research that we are doing with the Silmar Project and the help of volunteer divers.
Bring your cameras and enjoy guided dives in the seagrass meadows where you can meet some of its many inhabitants and learn about their fascinating mating behaviour. From nest-building fish and synchronised sea cucumber spawning to the tiniest nudibranchs, you'll learn why we are working to protect this threatened habitat.

The week's activities include:
Daily underwater fish and critter hunts for the area's most celebrated species
Special Presentations:
1. Posidonia oceanica, the world’s oldest living organism and its associated species
2. Coastal conservation research by Kenna Eco Diving team of volunteers with the Silmar Project
Underwater Photo Workshop:
We guarantee that after spending an energising week of fun and learning with a group of like-minded friends, diving will never be the same!
This workshop is free to guests staying at the Eco Center or our nearby apartments and is suitable for dive families, groups or individuals.

TestimonialWe're divers. What does the sea do for us? So much, of course - adventure, pleasure, well-being, quality of life - but increasingly the question is not what the sea can do for us, but what we can do for the sea? How can we pay back some of its generosity? The answer to this is remarkably easy. By eco-diving, which is what I did this summer with Kenna Eco-diving in L'Escala on Spain's Costa Brava. Free diving in return for the most rewarding work I've done for a long time, in or out of the water. From laying out transects to counting black and brown urchins, from identifying and mapping precious and false coral to recovering trash from the sea bed - I learned more about the marine environment in one week in August than in my previous four years' of diving. If you truly care about the sea, eco-diving with Kenna under the skilled guidance of Marine Research Coordinator Gaynor Rosier is one way of turning that care into meaningful action. Robin Walker |
Kenna Eco Diving is an active member of OCEAN2012 and Shark Alliance and is the main sponsor of free scuba diving for EcoDive volunteers taking part in our marine conservation research projects.

We organize regular underwater and beach cleanups for Project AWARE and awareness-raising events with local school children

The children collected 197 cigarette filters and a total of 7 kgs of assorted rubbish that harms marine life. They also won second place in the Project AWARE artwork competition. Well done Kids United!

Contact Us if you would like to come along and join us in our underwater cleanup dives for Project AWARE.
